Avalanche Peak (Arthurs Pass)
This day is Sponsored by:
Description
See Avalanche Peak on NZ topo maps
Starting on the western side of the Main Divide at Lake Misery we will run south on trails to the outskirts of Arthur's Pass township. A km of tar seal and then comes the big climb up Scotts Track (a little over 1,000m of ascent in about 3 kms) to the summit of Avalanche Peak. From here we'll take the route of the old Avalanche Peak Race down the scree slopes into the Crow Valley and continue south into the Waimakariri river bed, emerging at Klondyke Corner. The final few kms back to Arthur's Pass will either be done in the river bed or on the road, depending on the state of the weather and my body & mind.
Important Notes
Support runners need to be self-sufficient in regards to transport to the start and back from the finish. While we MAY be able to offer some assistance this CANNOT be guaranteed.
