I have a special connection with the Kaimanawas, as it was here that I conceived the idea of my very first multi-day fundraising challenge, the 7in7. The area also reminds me, more than just about anywhere in New Zealand, of the Scottish Highlands where I bagged my first peaks as a kid.
That aside, this is a special day spent largely on the high, open ridges of the Umukarikari and Middle Ranges. In between lie some solid climbs on bush tracks and the beautiful tussock-filled Waipakihi Valley. But don't underestimate it, this is a long, tough day with as much vertical ascent as any day of the Challenge.

Support runners need to be self-sufficient in regards to transport to the start and back from the finish. While we MAY be able to offer some assistance this CANNOT be guaranteed.
