The Journey
Description
See The Pinnacles on NZ topo maps
The Pinnacles are an iconic landmark in the Coromandel landscape and getting to them by our chosen route provides plenty of challenges.
Starting from the outskirts of Thames we will climb high into the main ranges, traversing some rough, tough bush trails before dropping down into the Kauaeranga Valley. Another big climb takes us above the bush line and a final ascent on steps and ladders leads to the spectacular rocky summit itself.
Our route down from the top retraces our steps before branching off on to the bone and quad-crunching Billy Goat Track that eventually delivers back to the main valley and the finish of the run.
IMPORTANT NOTES
Support runners need to be self-sufficient in regards to transport to the start and back from the finish. While we MAY be able to offer some assistance this CANNOT be guaranteed.
This day involves some rough, technical single track, which will be particularly arduous and hazardous in wet weather. With close to 3,000m of climb over the day, support runners will need to be well prepared for hills – both the ups and the downs.
